PHNOM PENH, 21 May 2024- Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen met with Czech Republic Ambassador Martin Vavra at the Senate Palace on May 21 to discuss bilateral trade and parliamentary diplomacy.

The meeting focused on the current trade relationship between the two nations, where Cambodia enjoys a significant export advantage. Ambassador Vavra pledged efforts to encourage new Czech investment in Cambodia, aiming to address the trade imbalance. Senate President Hun Sen suggested that both countries explore agreements that would boost investor confidence.

Parliamentary diplomacy was another key topic. Hun Sen reaffirmed the Cambodian Senate's commitment to this area, expressing a willingness to work with Ambassador Vavra to strengthen cooperation between the two legislatures. Ambassador Vavra confirmed a visit by a Czech parliamentary delegation later this year, further solidifying parliamentary ties.

The Senate President also expressed appreciation for the Czech Republic's debt cancellation initiative, effectively converting the debt into development assistance for Cambodia. Hun Sen additionally extended gratitude for ongoing Czech support in healthcare, education, and human resource development, particularly their scholarship programs for Cambodian students.

This meeting underscores the commitment of both Cambodia and the Czech Republic to fostering a multifaceted relationship, with a focus on addressing trade imbalances, strengthening parliamentary ties, and promoting continued development assistance.
